Commander's Message - Commander "Ric" Corley

Greetings from your Commander:

Our August meeting for the Power Squadron was held 10th of August at the 19th Hole Club in Bay Point. The blackened prime rib of beef was all the talk at my table with nearly all of us requesting "doggy bags" (are we gona get a dog). We had a pretty good turn out with approximately 25 attendees. All old members present were sworn in along with new members, Connie and Skip Rue---welcome to all! Speaking of meetings, don't forget that our next meeting will be at Uschi Gibson's House.

An accurate count was taken for the joint Econfina Creek Canoe trip with the Panama City Coastal Cruisers Club scheduled for 19th August. We had 4 canoes and a Kayak for the Power Squadron and 4 canoes for the Cruisers.

A Seamanship course is still in the planning stages with a Piloting to follow, but you will have to check the Stuffing Box for times, dates & place.

For the canoe trip turnout, we had eight canoes and two kayaks between Panama City Coastal Cruise Club & Power Squadron Members. For those of you who missed this event, we are sorry. It was a fun trip, especially when some of the members got a surprise dunking. Too bad I couldn't get some pictures of the dunking, but I did get some good pictures even though some are a bit fuzzy since I had to take them leaning backwards. Check them out for yourself at this link: Econfina Photos. Personally, I would like to see us do another trip in the fall with a leaf change or maybe try the one at Black Water River, Milton, Florida. Maybe we can discuss this further at Uschi's on September 9.

Wishing you fair tides & a following wind; and for our paddlers, a strong & steady J-stroke.

Captain "Ric" Corley, P

The September meeting will be a regular business meeting at the Healthplex. We'll meet at 1900 on Thursday, September 14. The September rendezvous has changed. Instead of going to Uncle Ernie's as we had once planned, we will rendezvous at Uschi Gibson's house. The day is the same, Saturday, September 9. We'll gather starting at noon. Uschi says please don't come early. As always, bring a dish to share. Uschi and the squadron will provide the liquid refreshments. Note that the rendezvous is before our monthly meeting, so be sure and put it on your calendar. Hope to see you there.
