June is one of my favorite fishing months , great fishing can be had both in area bays and offshore . Offshore anglers will finally be able to keep red snapper caught in federal waters , good numbers of large red snapper in the 5 to 10 pound range or more can found on most natural and manmade reefs . King mackerel and Spanish mackerel are being caught trolling live bait , dead bait and large plugs , good places to look are on structure and natural bottom in the 60 to 80 foot range . Inshore fishermen are catching numbers of Spanish mackerel , bluefish and trout free lining alewives around the points and on the edges of the grass flats , some of the mackerel have been in the 5 to 8 pound range . Later in June anglers will have a chance to sight fish tarpon and sharks between the east end of Shell island and Crooked Island Sound .
